Parents and students can record their own videos on ONE & NEO

Teachers have been able to record and broadcast videos directly on ONE’s platform since last year. Now, the video capture tool that is part of Edifice’s collaborative network will also be available for students and parents to use. There are endless educational uses for video, like oral presentations, poetry readings, book reports, or personalized messages. The educational value of incorporating video is well-proven.

Note: In some regions, video recording is already available to students.

Students and parents now have the chance to dive into video use, opening up even more dynamic ways to engage with the whole school community. In today’s video-centric world, where remote collaboration and interaction with co-workers, parents, partners, or clients are common, becoming proficient with video tools is becoming essential. Videos are also great for connecting with parents who might find written communication challenging. Parent representatives, for example, can now tailor their messages or announcements more personally. Additionally, if a little one is feeling nervous in kindergarten, a reassuring video sent from a parent to the teacher could help soothe those jitters.

Motivated students for an enhanced learning experience

Video has become a true star in capturing students’ attention and sparking their interest, increasingly making its way into classrooms. Maud, a teacher in Saint Nazaire, encourages her students to become literary critics in the style of a “BookTuber” on YouTube or, more recently, “BookTok” on TikTok. Adopting the popular codes of social networks is a winning strategy to engage and motivate young people, who also get to work on their oral expression. It’s also a great way to present reports and gain new skills. The educational benefits of video don’t stop there! It becomes a powerful ally in fostering creativity during artistic and cultural projects, such as singing, theater, or poetry. Another advantage is that students can keep a lasting record of their work and showcase it to their classmates or family, all on their own.

Nurture emerging public speakers with the power of video recording!

Using video in high school helps students break down complex ideas by requiring them to summarize concepts and express their knowledge verbally. Creating videos enhances students’ eloquence, memory, and ability to manage stress when speaking, similar to an oral exam setting. From filming themselves, students can identify language tics or distracting gestures to work on. Sharing videos within Edifice’s collaborative networks allows students to garner feedback for improvement from friends, parents, teachers, and others. By re-recording, students can refine their posture, tone, delivery, and grow more self-assured with each new version.

Just a quick reminder, how does it work?

The video capture module is very intuitive, and your students will easily get the hang of it, especially if they’ve already used the ONE Voice Recorder. Simply click on the video tab in the Multimedia Text Editor, and a window will open, offering, among other features, a “Camera” tab. This feature enables users to record videos up to three minutes long. With the four buttons at the top of the video interface, users can easily stop the recording, review what they’ve captured, or start over if needed. When you hit “Save,” the video gets neatly tucked away in the Filespace app, filed under “Documents Added in Apps,” and then it’s automatically embedded into your content, be it a blog post or a message. Plus, you can even record a video right from the homepage through the Studio widget, which consolidates both audio and video recording tools in one spot. Students and parents can also upload and share videos recorded from their phone, webcam, or camera to the apps within the collaborative network. However, be mindful of the file size of the uploaded videos, as they can quickly fill up the storage capacity of your Filespace.
