ONE and NEO: Trusted Online Spaces for Respectful Communication

As cyberbullying on social media continues to be a serious issue for many young people, it might seem tempting to restrict students’ communication rights on ONE and NEO. However, at Édifice, we believe that empowering young users with responsibility is crucial. Our secure and educational online spaces teach them how to use digital tools in a respectful and responsible way.

Communication and collaboration are at the core of all ONE and NEO applications. Students can, for example, comment on Blog posts, news updates, or share articles and videos—much like an educational social network. Unlike platforms such as Meta or X, which face ongoing controversies and have abandoned moderation, the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) provides a safe and supervised space for expression.

Secure Access to ONE and NEO

ONE and NEO are secure platforms where students, teachers, parents, and school staff must enter a unique ID and password to log in. The distribution of VLE accounts also presents an opportunity to educate young users on best practices for creating strong passwords.

It is essential to remind students that they must always log out of the VLE after using a shared school or institutional computer. This helps prevent account hacking and identity theft. These fundamental digital security habits, learned from an early age, will serve them well throughout their lives.

Reporting and Moderation on ONE and NEO

Each institution sets its own communication rules, which can be configured through the administration console. By default, students can communicate with staff, teachers, their classmates, and their parents.

In the Blog application, teachers decide whether they want to review student posts before they are published. Additionally, anonymity is not possible within the VLE—every action is linked to an identified user. Any shared content generates a notification in the activity feed, visible to all recipients. If users find certain content inappropriate, they can report it. The school’s digital platform administrator is then notified and has the authority to block the account if necessary.

Teaching Students About Digital Identity with “My Account”

All these measures help students understand another key aspect of responsible internet use: digital identity. This concept includes all personal information and traces that a person leaves online. You can explore this topic in class using the “My Account” section of the VLE.

Each user enters their personal information in their profile, which is, by default, visible to everyone in their network within the VLE. To hide specific details, students simply need to click the eye icon next to each field.

Another useful privacy tip is to use an avatar instead of a personal photo for their profile picture. A dedicated resource in the Edifice Library explains how to do this.

Your Personal Data Is in Safe Hands

Our Virtual Learning Environments comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). ONE securely stores personal data but does not use it for any other purposes. We never sell or rent your personal data.

Furthermore, 90 days after an account is closed, all personal data is permanently deleted. Until then, the data is securely hosted in a datacenter in Roubaix, France.
