How Artificial Intelligence Can Help Teachers Save Time

How can AI be used to support teachers? Edifice is tackling this question by developing an innovative tool that digitizes paper documents and PDFs, turning them into interactive exercises within the virtual learning environment (VLE).
For teachers new to the VLE, creating exercises can feel tedious and time-consuming. They often need to manually type and format content from paper or scanned documents. The process takes even longer if they want to add helpful features like answer hints or explanations, which are useful for student learning but require more time from educators.
Sometimes, teachers opt to photocopy their materials, missing out on the convenience and efficiency of digital tools — especially when it comes to distributing and grading assignments.
But what if artificial intelligence could be used to support teaching and save educators valuable time? That’s exactly what Edifice is working on! Our team is developing a unique tool that can digitize handwritten documents or upload digital files like PDFs, converting them into interactive resources for the virtual learning environment. Our prototype is already in testing, and we’re excited about its potential. We hope teachers will be just as enthusiastic!
Easily Digitize Your Paper Exercises with AI
How does it work? It’s not magic — it’s technology! Simply snap a photo of a handwritten or printed exercise using your phone or tablet, or upload a PDF. Edifice’s software then converts it into an interactive assignment within the VLE’s Exercises app. AI enhances the document by automatically generating answers, offering hints for students, and even providing explanations to support learning.
All that’s left for the teacher to do is review the exercise, assign it, and set a due date in the VLE — or offer it as a “practice” activity. Besides saving time and effort, teachers can take full advantage of digital tools: tracking student responses, sending reminders to late submitters, managing grades, and easily reusing exercises year after year.
Even better, AI-powered document digitization makes it simple to duplicate exercises and create different difficulty levels, making differentiated instruction easier than ever with just a few clicks.
